The Curriculum
The Old Vicarage School is unique as it offers each child an individual, bespoke education. No two children are alike and therefore each is encouraged to progress at a rate suitable to his/her own abilities. The teachers' task is to provide appropriate levels of motivation, stimulation and stretching for every child. With such guidance one can, with confidence, happily explore individual capabilities to the full. Moreover, we encourage a purposeful, disciplined approach in all areas of the curriculum.
The School aims to educate in a way that complements the experiences of home life. Good manners, courteous behaviour and respect for others are an integral part of the Old Vicarage School. An excellent curriculum is as easy as A,B,C….
Achievement
Every child has intelligence and can achieve at our school. We set ourselves the task of unlocking, enriching and enhancing this. Children are encouraged to achieve their best and are rewarded for doing do so through recognition, praise and constant encouragement. The most important aspect in education is equipping pupils with the skills necessary to learn and enjoy learning. This is a preparation for senior school and beyond. This includes the important aim that each child is taught within his or her own capabilities and aptitudes and is encouraged always to give of his/her best.
Balance
The utmost importance is placed on appropriate time being given to each curriculum area as well as to a broad range of extra-curricular activities. A full commitment to teaching and recognition of individual strengths and weaknesses takes children beyond the scope of the National Curriculum. An accurate record of each child's progress is maintained in all areas and regularly fed back to parents.
Comprehensive
The education we offer here is full and engaging. Pupils should love learning because of the experiences they have gained here. Good teaching leads to understanding and comprehension. Emphasis is placed on speech, table manners, etiquette and behaviour. Children are encouraged to engage with the wider world. We aim to offer them as many positive experiences as possible in and outside the classroom.
We teach the core subjects of English, Mathematics and Science with the other essential subjects of ICT, History, Geography, Formation, French, Design & Technology, Art and Music.
