The Curriculum
The Old Vicarage School is unique as it offers each child an individual, bespoke education. Every child is assessed weekly and planning for each individual by the Class Teacher occurs through the setting of tailor-made targets to suit the child’s progress in all curriculum areas. There is a special focus placed on the core subjects.
No two children are alike and therefore each is encouraged to progress at a rate suitable to his/her own abilities. The teachers' task is to provide appropriate levels of motivation, stimulation and stretching for every child. With such guidance each one can, with confidence, happily explore individual capabilities to the full. Moreover, we encourage a purposeful, disciplined approach in all areas of the curriculum. The School aims to educate in a way that complements the experiences of home life. Good manners, courteous behaviour and respect for others are an integral part of the Old Vicarage School.
An excellent curriculum is as easy as A,B,C….
Pupils are keen to show their knowledge

The most important aspect is a sound, all-round education, where pupils learn how to learn. This is a preparation for senior school and beyond. This includes the important aim that each child is taught within his or her own capabilities and aptitudes and is encouraged always to give of his/her best. They are encouraged to achieve their best and are rewarded for doing do so through recognition, praise and constant encouragement. Every child can achieve at this school. Every child has intelligence and we set ourselves the task of unlocking it, enriching and enhancing it. |

The utmost importance is placed on appropriate time being given to each curriculum area as well as to a broad range of extra-curricular activities. A full commitment to teaching and recognition of individual strengths and weaknesses takes children beyond the scope of the National Curriculum. We aim to equip the children with the skills they will require at their next schools and for life. An accurate record of each child's progress is maintained in all areas and regularly fed back to parents. |

The education we offer here is full and engaging. Pupils should love learning because of the experiences they have gained here. Good teaching leads to understanding and comprehension. We recognise the importance of social training and emphasis is placed on speech, table manners, etiquette and behaviour. Children are encouraged to engage with the wider world. We aim to offer them as many positive experiences as possible in and outside the classroom. At the Old Vicarage School we use the National Curriculum as a guide but often go beyond it. We teach the core subjects of Literacy, Numeracy and Science with the other essential subjects of History, Geography, Religious Education, French, Craft Design & Technology, Art, Music, ICT and PSHE & Citizenship. Reading is seen as hugely important to a child’s academic development and children are urged to read daily and keep a record of their progress. |
