“The Old Vicarage School is highly successful in meeting its aims to unlock the potential in every pupil. Leadership and Management of the Early Years is Excellent”
ISI Inspection Report 2015
The Old Vicarage School Nursery welcomes children from age 2 1/2 plus, initially on a part time basis until they are 3 years old. It is open during term times, plus operates a one week holiday Club in July and at Christmas.
Childhood is not a rehearsal. You can be assured of close, personal attention at all times. Small classes and carefully selected, dedicated staff ensure that your child’s progress is consistent and often exceeds their age predicted ability.
The Nursery class is very much part of the Old Vicarage School family. The children wear the same uniform and play with older children, building upon the school’s nurturing environment. This inclusive setting helps to achieve a smooth transition to Reception.
The Nursery Classroom is spacious and bright, furnished with natural materials, plants and comfortable rugs and cushions. The children have a dedicated art room where they can make great masterpieces and enjoy messy play. Outside in the mature grounds you will find our very special ‘Gruffalo Woods’. Equipped with Wellies and wet weather clothing the children visit the woodland and mature gardens daily, partaking in a specialist gardening lesson every Thursday. All children benefit from visits by specialist Music, PE, French and Performing Arts teachers. There is a large astro turf for learning PE skills, including Hockey, Football, Netball and Athletics. There is a wooden play area for imaginative games with friends.
Age 3 plus
Once your children reaches three years of age in the OVS Nursery you can increase their attendance to full time. The children are also then able to participate in a broad range of extra curricular clubs. In addition to a dedicated Nursery Nurse a qualified EYFS practitioner also works in the Nursery on a full time basis, able to teach Literacy and Numeracy to our young learners. By the time they leave the Nursery to join Reception children are often writing independently and blending phonics in their reading.
Nutrition and hydration are of utmost importance. Children are encouraged to drink regularly and partake in a two course, home cooked hot meal. At these times they eat as a family, learning social skills, developing good table manners and using a knife and fork properly.
The best way to appreciate our Nursery and see how it compares to other settings is to visit us. You are very welcome!
