Last week we focused on Children’s Mental Health Week, with the theme “This Is My Place”.
Nursery and Reception children focused on wellbeing, exploring simple relaxation techniques such as calm breathing and listening to music. They discussed how music can influence our feelings and reflected on how their behaviour affects others. To celebrate what makes our school so special, they created beautiful handprint displays sharing why OVS is important to them — a lovely reminder of our strong sense of community and belonging.
Year 1 and Year 2, the children explored how their behaviour can impact others and what it means to be a good friend. Through stories, discussions and activities, they reflected on kindness, empathy and how small actions can make a big difference to someone’s day.
Year 3 spent time exploring why we worry and how anxiety is the brain’s way of trying to protect us. The children created beautiful ‘Belonging Hearts’, showing who, where and what helps them feel safe, calm and happy. They also wrote thoughtful letters to their brains, thanking them for the important job they do, and learned a range of strategies to help them stay calm when worries arise.
Year 4 children designed individual posters showcasing the things they love. These were then brought together to create a colourful class mosaic celebrating their interests and personalities.
In Year 5, pupils created thoughtful mind maps titled “This Is My Place”. These were filled with the people, activities and spaces that bring them joy and help them feel safe and happy. This reflective activity encouraged children to recognise what supports their wellbeing and celebrate the things that make them unique.
Year 6 created a beautiful piece of artwork based on the idea of an island, filling it with images and words that represented ‘This Is My Place’. Each island reflected what makes them feel safe, happy and connected, resulting in thoughtful and highly personal creations. ... See MoreSee Less
